Sorrento
Sorrento, Italy sits on the Amalfi Coast of Italy. The town is known for its special tasting lemons and tomatoes. Because of the volcanic soil and the proximity to the sea, the soil in this area produces unique tasting lemons and tomatoes (and maybe more, I just don’t know).
My dad and I planned an Italian adventure and set our to Rome and Sorrento during our week long trip. We are part Italian and it was my dad’s first time going to Europe, so Italy seemed like the perfect place.
To make our way from Rome to Sorrento we took a Flixbus. The ride was a little over four hours. A bit boring yes, but we did get to see glimpses of Pompeii, Naples and stunning views of the coast from our bus seats.
In Sorrento we stayed at the Hotel Continental. (I got a pretty good deal from an airline industry site that allows people working in the industry travel deals!)
The hotel was stunning and sat right near the water offering the perfect spot to watching the sunset. I would without a doubt stay here again.
Sorrento felt more relaxing than the busy streets of Rome. We enjoyed our time walking down alleys that were full of leather goods and grocery stores with Italian treats.
Being that lemons were such a staple in Sorrento we looked up where to head for the best limoncello. Giardini di Cataldo was were we headed to get a taste.
When you walk in there’s a cute little shop area where you can order coffee and lemon gelato, which of course we did. After our (first) treats we walked through the lemon vines that occupy the property.
Certainly we bought some limoncello to take home with us. I still have some saved for a rainy day.
We ate at the restaurant in our hotel a few times. Usually I try to venture outside of where I’m staying to eat but being that this was Italy and our hotel wasn’t a huge chain, we gave it a shot.
Il Terrazzino was located on the ground floor of the hotel. It had amazing pasta dishes and great seafood options that we weren’t even expecting.
It’s hard to go wrong eating it Italy, period. Even the cheapest wines still hit different. My favorite meal in our time in Sorrento was as simple as margarita pizza with red wine. A meal I’ve had in the states plenty of times, but still no comparison.
If you’re ever on the Amalfi Coast or plan to be, make sure to include Sorrento in your travels you won’t regret it.
