Kauai
There’s nothing better than tagging along with your mom on one of her work trips. It especially helps when she’s an event planner and that event she’s planning happens to be in Kauai, Hawaii.
Since as a flight attendant I have amazing flight benefits and can just jump on a plane anytime, I met my mom in Kauai. She and her work friend got a hotel room for a few extra nights after their event, and work was over so they could cut loose a bit.
Another great part about tagging along with your mom and her work bff is when they pick you up at the airport to go to the hotel. Even if they were on their way back from a helicopter tour of the island, without me.
On my first night in they were both already pretty well acclimated to the hotel, the Grand Hyatt Kauai. The hotel has plenty of restaurants to choose from but they chose right with Stevenson's Sushi & Spirits. There was plenty of fun cocktails and sushi to choose from but what I remember most is the view.
It’s hard to find a bad view on the whole property I’d say. It is huge property and you hardly have to leave.
But every morning we took a little walk off the Hyatt’s property to Little Fish Coffee.
Little Fish has anything and everything you could want from your morning coffee stop. From Acai, with fruit that you can tell is fresh, to bagel sandwhiches to smoothies to coffee, nothing there is bad. Along with great food and drink, the actual shop couldn’t be cuter. It’s a modest little outdoor ordering station with a few tables scattered outside.
With my mom and her friends breakfast routine ending up pretty flawless it’s safe to say I had high expectations for lunch. These two ladies made sure they were met.
We spent our lunch by the pool relaxing and in a power move ordering from the pool boy (might’ve been a girl). Prior to this trip I was convinced tuna wasn’t for me, but put it on a salad next to a pool in Hawaii and it’ll change my mind.
The icing on the cake though was the piña colada I had that was whipped to perfection and sent down straight from heaven.
We spent the next couple of days with a similar routine and I have no complaints.
Kauai is known as the garden island of the Hawaiian Islands and it is easy to see why. The lush landscape is a dream to walk through and makes even the shortest walk an adventure. Not to be biased but Kauai is my favorite of the Hawaiian islands I’ve been to.
