Seattle
Whenever I get a layover in Seattle I am ecstatic. People always complain about the weather and rain but every time I’ve been there it’s been plenty sunny. Maybe I just bring sunshine wherever I got (kidding).
I’ve been to Seattle plenty of times but don’t always have time to do more than sleep. Luckily, this time I was staying downtown and had the whole day. I’d done the usual tourist things in Seattle before like; going up in the Space Needle, which is a mind blowing view; going to the Gum Wall, a little gross; and Pike Place Market.
The hotel we stayed in was close to Pike Place Markert so in the morning I went and walked around before all the big crowds came. I do love walking through and seeing all the fresh flowers and produce. I can’t say I usually buy anything since it’s usually overpriced but what a fun way to get your steps in.
After walking through the market, you can easily veer off to walk along the water. Pier’s line the streets and it makes for a scenic walk. And if you need a touristy knickknack to bring home, there’s no doubt you’ll find it.
Since I’d to Seattle a few times, and had checked everything off the basic list of things to do I decided to try something different.
I signed myself for an Argosy Harbor Cruise. It didn’t get off to the best start when they made me stand in front of an Argosy life ring and took my picture by myself before I could get on the boat. But after a bit of embarrassment, I got to see Seattle from a completely new angle.
I took the Harbor Cruise but the company offers all sorts of tours. Time permitting I would no doubt go on one of the cruises that goes to Blake Island.
On the cruise they give a brief history of the city and being that the most I knew about Seattle before this was learned from the movie Sleepless in Seattle, it was a day well spent.
The most important thing I learned on the boat ride was the legend of the Wishing Chair at the Smith Tower. Rumor has it, any unmarried woman who sits in the chair and wishes for marriage will be married in one year.
All jokes aside, the tour offered a unique way to the city while also allowing a brief history of the city and left me feeling productive on my layover.
