Park City
At the start of school for my boyfriend Kevin, we signed up for a ski trip. I assumed of course, that I would be skiing, however when I saw lift tickets were almost $300, I figured I could find other ways to entertain myself. Don’t get me wrong I love to ski but between spending my money on that or an over the top Aprés-Ski experience, the choice was easy.
Thursday
I luckily got on a Delta flight by flying stanby direct from Austin to Park City with a lot of Kevin’s classmates. Kevin was already there because his plan was to ski a whole day by himself, sadly he got sick. The two of us skipped the bars and dinner the first night and just ordered room service the two of us. We stayed a the Doubletree Park City which was right next to downtown Park City. It was easy to get around whether by bus or Uber.
Friday
Luckily Kevin felt well enough to ski (one of his favorite things on this earth) so he headed out early Friday morning. I had a nice slow morning working out and getting ready to head to the Vintage Room at the St. Regis later in the day. I do ski however when I realized it was $250 for a lift pass I decided I preferred to spend that money on Aprés-Ski.
Around 3pm we headed over to the St Regis Deer Valley. There was a group of eight girls, which was how big our table was. Lucky for me, I’ve found great friends in both Kevin’s classmates and wives of classmates so trips like this are an amazing time.
Once arriving at the hotel, you take a little tram up from the main property to a higher spot on the mountain. Having a table was amazing. It’s a pretty small space and having our own made the girls day tenfold better. I will say if you don’t get a table, the line seems to move pretty quick so it seems to be worth the wait!
We had the best time dancing to the DJ, popping champagne bottles, and eating the oddly paired sushi that accompanies the table. The Vintage Room is an absolute best, and an amazing choice for a girls day.
After quite literally being the last ones out of the Vintage Room we headed downtown Park City to fuel ourselves with a little dinner before heading to the bar his class had rented out for the night. We stayed up too late before heading back to the hotel.
Saturday
Safe to say Saturday started a little slow after an aggressive Aprés-Ski that led into a bit of a wild night. But those of us who weren’t skiing meandered out of bed and made our way to downtown Park City. We stumbled upon Don Gallo and suddenly Mexican food seemed like the move. The food was great and just what we needed, including those bloody marias. After being revived by lunch, we headed back over to Deer Valley.
Somewhere I’d been dying to go since my mom told me about it from one of her visits to Park City had always been the Veuve Yurt at the Montage. As a bubbly lover, the tent always peaked my interest and has been on my bucketlist. I will say the tent itself was smaller than what I expected. There is a little roped off area with cute Veuve chairs set up outside though. Lucky for us it was a beautiful day we were able to enjoy our champs while watching people ski down.
After an afternoon with Veuve half of us headed inside for one more cocktail before dinner and the other half headed back to the hotel to freshen up. The Montage is such a beautiful property so it is no surprise that the hotel bar with its massive fireplaces were a gorgeous, cozy spot for a drink. I got perhaps my favorite drink to date which was a s’mores espresso martini.
Dinner was at Tupelo. I must say most of the menu was out of my comfort zone but I did try the Pork Cheek. The food was very good, pricey, but fairly good for a ski town. After dinner the group headed to the bars downtown Park City. Kevin wasn’t feeling well so instead of hitting the bars, I headed to the grocery store to get ice cream and meds for my sick boy. We just hung out in the room and watched movies which made waking up Sunday morning a lot easier.
Sunday
Once again on the flight back to Austin I was flying stanby on another airline. One of the best parts about ski vacations to Park City is how accessible it is in comparison to other ski towns. A lot of Colorado skiing you have to either fly into Denver and make your way a few hours into the mountains or fly into a tiny mountain town airport which can get pricey. Park City, you just fly into Salt Lake City and the ubers/lyfts aren’t too expensive for the forty minute drive. Not to mention SLC is a beautiful airport.
I made it on the same flight as Kevin and we both got back to Austin with all our ski baggage.
