Honolulu

There’s nothing that quite spices up a layover than knowing you’re going to meet up with your crazy flight attendant friend once you arrive.

After getting my first layover in Honolulu, I realized my friend Kyle would be there at the same time. Knowing Kyle I knew I had to mentally prepare myself for a good time.

When we arrived at our hotel in Waikiki, I quickly changed and freshened up as much as one can after a ten hour flight. Waikiki is a pretty touristy area but at least that means there’s plenty to do.

That night we went to Dukes on the beachfront to watch the sunset and but of course, get some tropical cocktails.

Being that I was exhausted after the trip I passed out before the karaoke part of the evening. Luckily though, since I fell asleep early I was able to grab a coffee and go for a morning walk. And don’t worry I still got to hear their singing from videos they sent me.

Later in the day we decided to make the trek up to Diamond Head. Personally I would in no sense consider myself to be a hiker. Even so the hike up Diamond Head was very reasonable and not too difficult. In fact it was easy enough for my friend Kyle to chug a beer halfway up the mountain.

A few hours before I had to head back to the airport we relaxed at Waikiki Beach. Even with it being a pretty tourist populated area I didn’t feel overcrowded or claustrophobic.

The beach offers an amazing view of the island and is even better if your friend also serves as a personal photographer.
